Kita’s Gentle Message: Leaving a Footprint (Saturday, July 22, 2017)

“Thoughts come and go.  Our mind processes thousands of them daily with many zipping by without our conscious attention.  Once in a while, one lodges itself within our waking realm and chooses to stay a while.  Some are wonderful; others are nasty.  Recently, a thought settled within me that gives me unexpected peace – the kind of thought that is long lasting, substantial and comforting. Luckily for me, this one belongs in the “wonderful” category.  I’ve realized that whatever goals I want to…See More

Kita’s Gentle Message: Not Everything has to Stick (Saturday, July 1, 2017)

"We’ve been taught to watch for and take advantage of opportunities that show up in our lives. Whether a good buy, a new interesting friend, chance to get away, another job contract, investment offer – all these situations signal to us to explore them and see how they can help us out in a positive way. Sometimes these events occur rarely sometimes in multiples. When the latter happens, there’s an urge to grasp at everything lest we “lose out”. In attempting to seize all like eating all you can…See More

Kita’s Gentle Message: Don’t Rush to Fill Your Space (Saturday, June 10, 2017)

The project is finished; the meeting over sooner than you anticipated. An unannounced block of free time – an empty space - has suddenly come upon you and for a moment you are stunned.  After all, this does not happen very often in your 24/7 world that’s filled to the brim with work, errands, to-do-lists, emergencies – life itself. Shall you occupy it immediately by rushing to get tomorrow’s groceries today? Starting Friday’s report?  Stopping at the bank? Washing your hair? Or can you sit back…See More

Kita’s Gentle Message: When Something Simple just doesn’t Stick (Saturday, May 13, 2017)

This week has been busy handling the media outreach for a major festival in town. I don’t know if this has happened to you where you’re supposed to implement something straightforward but for whatever reasons, completion of the task eludes you. I’ve not been there to take the call; I can’t find the information online; I’ve lost the person’s phone number who can provide answers to me;  I’ve forgotten about the item even though I’ve written it down… and another work day has come to an end.  Sound…See More

Kita’s Gentle Message: Talk It Out (Saturday, May 6, 2017)

Don’t assume, take it for granted, conclude based on past history, chicken out, make assumptions, act on impulse, follow the letter of the law, do nothing, phone a friend, listen to your mother, avoid the issue, reason it out, drink to forget, get even, get high, consult the doctor, compare notes, get angry, complain about the situation, wonder how to resolve it,…simply get in touch and talk it out.  You’ll be surprised how this can solve many a misunderstanding. To your Happiness,Kita  See More

Kita’s Gentle Message: The Perfection of Imperfection (Saturday, April 29, 2017)

The image of a cracked pot popped into my head today and I immediately thought of Leonard Cohen’s lyrics, “Ring the bells that still can ring. Forget your perfect offering. There is a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in.” The latter may have a philosophical/religious source – such a wise observation.  You don’t have to be perfect; your imperfection is exactly the space that allows the Divine to work within you. What hope this thought gives us…To your Happiness,KitaSee More

Kita’s Gentle Message: Are There Enough Smarties? (Saturday, April 22, 2017)

Two of my sons celebrate birthdays in April and since they’ve been old enough to know there’s a birthday cake on their special day, I’ve made them each a chocolate cake decorated with Smarties. Specifically, I spell out their name on top of the cake with each letter in the same colour of the candy, and then dress the rest of the cake with what Smarties are left. I now use two boxes instead of just one.  Every time I pour out the pieces I look to see if there’s enough of every colour, to do…See More

Kita’s Gentle Message: Stepping off the Path (Saturday, April 15, 2017)

You begin to feel it – no one else knows or even notices a change in your behaviour. But you know it.  The knowing within acts as a honing device telling you when what you’ve thought, said or done isn’t in alignment with what you believe about yourself.  The more you immerse yourself in purposeful living, the more frequently you’re called out.  “Why did you say this?” “Why did you do that?” This is not a punishment but Spirit’s way of keeping you on your path.  Be gentle with yourself when this…See More

Kita’s Gentle Message: It’s so Hard to be Good (Saturday, April 8, 2017)

The acts of violence around the world, the acts of unkindness close to home, and the mercurial disposition of our earth and weather make it so hard to be good these days.  The lack of certainty has prompted a “survival of the fittest” mentality where love, compassion, trust and patience have been elbowed out by the bullies of fear, anger, revenge and greed. This time of change and transition is pushing every button we possess, and I in my cloak of goodness am pulling off my buttons as fast as I…See More

Kita’s Gentle Message: Knowing You have to Move On (Saturday, April 1, 2017)

Logically, you can create a number of reasons for maintaining the status quo. Your mind - by default in its survival mode – will willingly prevent you from leaving the familiar to enter the unknown even if the familiar is uncomfortable for you. Not knowing terrifies the mind more than an existing situation that is unhealthy for you. However, deep inside you a small voice grows ever stronger and more insistent that change needs to happen. The conflict begins.  Who will triumph? Your mind or your…See More

Kita’s Gentle Message: What Motivates Other People… (Saturday, March 25, 2017)

What motivates other people may not be what is motivating you. This is a very clear and uncomplicated statement. Yet not taking this into consideration when accepting a job, making plans with a family member, deciding on a night out with your friends or even taking your dog for a walk can lead to disappointment, frustration and misunderstanding. What compels each of us to engage the way we do is unique to our personality, upbringing and belief system. There is no wrong or right – simply the…See More

Kita’s Gentle Message: The Truth can be Comfortable (Saturday, March 18, 2017)

We’re constantly being told to be careful what we say – that saying what you really think leaves yourself wide open. The words “vulnerable” “under scrutiny” “irresponsible” “naïve” “crazy” have all been used to describe someone who has stated their truth.  Logic has convinced us that speaking truth is even dangerous. But if you were to say what you truly think how refreshing, liberating that would be.  To be yourself despite all to the contrary.  Imagine how comfortable that would be. To be…See More

Kita’s Gentle Message: Are You Measuring Out your Love? (Saturday, March 11, 2017)

It’s easier to be kinder to strangers because you don’t know them. There’s no personal connection or history to pre-empt the flow of kindness from you to them. You may be donating, volunteering, sharing and giving of your time and energy to those in need without reservation but how are you in your generosity when it comes to your family? Sometimes past personal experiences build up a wall of self-protection, anger, shame, confusion and mistrust that prevents your flow of love to kin with whom…See More

Kita’s Gentle Message: Bend It Like Beckham (Saturday, July 15, 2017)

“Though the movie “Bend It Like Beckham” deals with a young Indian girl whose traditional parents do not want her playing soccer, when the title popped in my head, I was thinking more along the lines of bending into changing circumstances especially innocent and innocuous ones – an unexpected request to help a neighbour, waiting longer for an appointment, doubling back because you’ve forgotten the milk, a sold-out movie you’ve been wanting to see, the stain in the…

Kita’s Gentle Message: Ripe for an Identity Crisis (Saturday, July 8, 2017)

“Those of you who have studied long and hard at your career know a lot of things that other people don’t. Whether an expert in biology or finances, social media or kinesiology, your information is valued and to a certain extent what you know is who you are. Yes, your work defines you – in many cases admirably. However, be careful to ensure that others see the other parts of you, the ones that you hold close to your chest or even the ones that are hidden, especially…

Happy Valentine’s Day! Live More, Laugh Much, Love Often!!!

"I am determined to be cheerful and happy in whatever situation I may find myself. For I have learned that the greater part of our misery or unhappiness is determined not by our circumstance but by our disposition."
