Kita's Gentle Message: We're in This Together (Friday, March 29, 2013)

It’s been a busy week finishing up client work and meeting up with friends and family here before heading to my Mom’s for Easter weekend.  Whether it’s a new business prospect meeting,  catching up with a girlfriend, having breakfast with one of my sons, running into an acquaintance on the street, exchanging a word with the barista, the operative word is “community”.  How satisfying it is to reach out and receive an affirmation of “who you are” in response: a word,…

A New Look at a Classic

A New Look at a Classic

Psalm 23 is one of the best known poetic works in the world; comforting words read daily at hospital bedsides and cemetery gravesides. Even people who are not particularly spiritual seek the solace and security these six verses offer. Recently I was reading them again and came to see them in a brand new way. A way filled with power for every Mountain Taker.

David’s words evoke a peaceful pastoral setting of sheep grazing in sunshine filled…

Kita's Gentle Message: Separateness Versus Getting Involved (Saturday, March 23, 2013)

There’s been a lot of discussion lately on why people get involved – particularly in situations where someone else is being bullied or attacked.  Should they intervene or leave well enough alone?  There’s a moral argument to this of course but I maintain that our technology of faceless emailing, disembodied Facebooking  and tweeting has made for a culture of general separateness.  We’re present but not really.  The act of being face-to-face is decreasing, and with…

Kita's Gentle Message: My Colors are Showing (Saturday, March 16, 2013)

It is with deep disappointment and concern that I read of the Conservative government’s decision to close down the world-renowned freshwater research station in Northern Ontario at the end of this month.  The Fisheries Department says the work being done there no longer fits with its core mandate.   Sure, research into mercury, carbon, silver nanoparticles (new contaminants) and effects of climate change on fish (trout in this case) no longer fits with an economic…

Interview Postponed

I’m sorry to say Debbie Kiely has had an unexpected family heath crisis and needs to postpone Saturday’s radio interview. I’ll let you know when we reschedule.

"Ah Ha"

“Ah Ha”

Ever had the experience of reading along on a page and all of a sudden the text seems to jump out at you? Somehow it speaks to right where you are. It can be a bit overwhelming. At those times you have an “Ah Ha” moment. “There’s the answer to my question!” or, “Why didn’t I see this before?” It can happen in any setting professional or personal. For me it’s most arresting when I’m reading my Bible.

Recently I found…

Kita's Gentle Message: You Don't have to Eat the Leftovers (Saturday, March 9, 2013)

Eighty-one year old actor Olympia Dukakis was quoted recently as saying, “…There’s a lot of leftover stuff at the back of the refrigerator; you don’t have to eat it.”  We all have leftover stuff that we can pick at or we can make the decision to toss it and focus on getting something fresh.  It’s like trying to decide to be happy.  We all have this choice too.

Three "S's" of the Kingdom

Three “S’s” of the Kingdom

Saved, Set Apart, Sent

Every follower of Jesus has heard these three and their underlying truths expressed many times. Usually the emphasis is on the first and third, so we won’t dwell on them. Today I want to look at the often overlooked or under comprehended number two – “Set apart”

What does it meant to be “Set apart”? It’s often seen as the link between “Saved” and…

Kita's Gentle Message: March into Spring (Saturday, March 2, 2013)

There’s a certain weariness that comes with living through a cold, icy, windy, snowy, and generally relentless winter.  Though it steels you for challenges to come, it also steals away some vital energy and spark in us, doesn’t it?  Just when we’ve had more than enough, March appears and rescues us.  And like an old friend, I call out, “Hey, March. It’s good to  have you back.”
