Sports Parents Tip of the Day

Teaching Kids Sportsmanship

One aspect of good sportsmanship is to be accepting of other players’ inadequacies. It is very common for better players to get upset when their teammates make mistakes. Getting upset is natural but displaying this unhappiness should never be allowed by sport parents and…

Sports Parents Tip of the Day

Tip for Effective Sports Coaching

Sports coaches need to be very observant and when they notice boredom setting in with players they should adjust their practice with new drills or practice routines. There are three signs that players are becoming bored: 1. When athletes begin to look around…

A Great Seed Sower!

In the early to mid 1800’s an American pioneer named John Chapman had a very interesting career, one we benefit from to this day. John Chapman was an itinerant agriculturist who traveled through out the then sparsely settled territories of Western Pennsylvania, the Ohio River Valley, and Indiana. As he moved from place to place he would scatter seed.…

Sports Parents Tip of the Day

A Key to Success

Recently, I wrote that coaches (parents) cannot give athletes confidence because youth athletes can only attain it on their own. That is not meant to say that adults cannot help youth athletes find confidence. Some measure of athletic success is usually necessary for an athlete to…

Kita's Gentle Message: Knowing When to Move On (June 19, 2010)

Like the party guest who lingers on and doesn't take the hint that it really is time for them to leave, sometimes we do the same in our lives. We hold on to someone or something far longer than we should because it's what we know and this familiarity gives us comfort. As the expression goes, "Better the devil you know than the one you don't." The unknown is not only uncomfortable but can be downright scary. Are you holding onto something that is no longer in…

My new site "All Medicines Are Poison!" is not a diatribe about standard medicine. It's about the sorry state of health care in our Country. Becoming a strict alternative medicine advocate will not fix that problem. At this time, the health status of the people in our Country is rated as 37th in world. My recently published book "All Medicines Are Poison!" discusses this in detail and suggests solutions and conclusions that I've come to in the 60 years that I've worked in our… Continue

Sports Parents Tip of the Day

It astounds me when parents bring their kids into see me and say “It’s all in their head,” as to why they are not performing well. I have found this is rarely the case. I have never not found mechanical deficiencies in these players. Kids may have a lack of confidence which leads… Continue

Kita's Gentle Message: The Problem With E-mails (June 12, 2010)

This week I have had two not-so-pleasant situations where the content of an e-mail exchange has been misunderstood either by me or the person I was communicating with. Written words only go so far to completely reflect someone's true intentions. Without gesture, intonation, volume and facial expression, the real meaning can be lost on a page. Do keep this in mind the next time you send off an e-mail. I certainly shall.
