Kita's Gentle Message: Just Do It (Saturday, October 29, 2011)

I’m borrowing Nike’s well-known phrase “Just Do It” as a pep talk tool. Why? Because it stems from a conversation I had this morning that has me determined to say, “You already have the power. When blaming other people or situations for your life the way it is, you are giving your power away. Take responsibility for yourself and start making decisions that are good for you. Keep focused on your personal goals and act out of love not fear. Once you elect to be… Continue

Our "Chaortic" World

Our “Chaortic” World

This has been quite the month. Major figures in technology, politics, sports, and terror have all passed from the scene. Financial markets around the globe have been rocked by events in Europe and elsewhere. Entire nations have experienced unrest, disruption of normal life, and wholesale violence. Any one of these could be cause for concern, anxiety, or fear. This year has witnessed more widespread economic, cultural and political unrest than many have seen…

Kita's Gentle Message: The Big "C" (Sat. October 22, 2011)

I am reading about and encountering the Big “C” more than ever before.  Journalists, psychologists, politicians, community leaders, writers, neighbours and family are speaking of it more.  Some of us are experiencing it first-hand.  And some of us are the catalysts of this powerful force.  Let it spread and bring us all calm and peace within and with others.  I am speaking of compassion.

Last Resort - a review

Is their love really enough? Despite a rocky beginning, Faith and Matt find that they are obviously meant for each other. Not only do their strawberry farms connect, but they share the same strong faith. Both have suffered failed romances in the past, but now their future looks bright. Unfortunately, Faith’s psychotic ex-boyfriend Fred doesn’t see it that way. He will stop at nothing to get Faith back, whether she likes it or not. Terrorized by vandalism, arson, and even attempted murder,…

Kita's Gentle Message: Looking Back to Move Forward (Sat. October 15, 2011)

While cleaning up my papers, I came across a few notes and personal anecdotes I had written a few years ago. I reread the goals and wishes I had set for myself then, and surprisingly enough their essence still resonates with me. They are reaffirming who I am, where I came from and where I am going. Sometimes to move forward with continued conviction takes looking back at what you have already envisioned for yourself. It’s a nice shot in the arm.…

First Impressions

First Impressions

This morning I attended a workshop on “Impression Management”, an area I have not encountered before. Today’s talk was entitled, “Using Your First Three Seconds to Create a Lasting Impression.” The speaker studied under an “Impression Management” coach as part of her consultant training and now employs the practice in her consulting work.

The idea that in just 3 seconds, the first 3 seconds, even before words are exchanged you are going to create a… Continue

Free Solo

Free Solo

A few days ago I viewed a television show that chronicled the adventures of a 21st Century daredevil. Alex Honnold, a twenty-something young man specializes in “Free Solo” rock climbing. “Free Solo” climbing entails scaling sheer rock cliffs up to two thousand feet or more high, with no ropes, no other climbers, no way to guard against a fall to certain death. Equipped with rubber climbing shoes, a bag of chalk dust, and incredible determination, Alex has scaled over… Continue

Kita's Gentle Message: Michael Jackson

I’ve had the opportunity to be local publicist for Cirque du Soleil’s Michael Jackson: The Immortal Tour, and was invited to attend the World Premiere in Montreal last weekend. The show – like other Cirque productions – puts your senses into overdrive. With so much spectacular stimuli, it would be easy to miss the gentler side of this amazing spectacle: Michael himself. Video footage with personal commentary, images, the dance moves, and the songs – all sung by Michael… Continue
