Honesty, or...

Mountain taking in whatever sphere is a day to day process, with each day holding its own surprises and opportunities. At times it’s the “surprises”, aka disappointments that that help equip and inform us on our journeys. We have just experienced one of those “surprises”.…

Kita's Gentle Message: Life's Synchronicities (Sat. Nov 27, 2010)

My Dad had major surgery this past week, and the entire family was on high alert: would Dad get through it all right? He did and my brother, who's a physiotherapist, flew in from the west coast to help Dad regain his walking ability. Interestingly enough, one of the surgeons assisting during the operation turned out to be on my brother's high school football team - he was quarterback to brother Bob the full back. Together they helped win the city's high school…

Kita's Gentle Message: Up-Styling for an Up Event (Sat. Nov. 20, 2010)

I was heading out to a product launch with its announced celebrities and such, so decided I needed a hair style that would match the occasion. And it did! Alessandro combed, sectioned, arranged, parted, then re-arranged, pondered some, pinned, and sprayed. And sprayed again to ensure his creation built with my fine, blonde hair stayed in place. As I looked in the vanity mirror - what an apt name - I smiled and thought to myself, "Yes, this up-style fits the…

Kita's Gentle Message: Remembering (November 11, 2010)

In Canada, November 11 is Remembrance Day - a day to remember all those who have lost their lives in armed conflict to defend and preserve our freedom and way of life. Because both my parents fought in the Second World War, and have shared their stories with me, I feel particularly proud and sad on this day. Proud of the tremendous sacrifices that soldiers have made; and sad, knowing that many of them never did come home again.…

Kita's Gentle Message: This Business of Dust (Sat. Nov. 6, 2010)

Saturdays will find me in puttering mode: picking up, putting away, sweeping, doing laundry, and sometimes even dusting. This business of dust infuriates and fascinates me at the same time. I dislike dusting but it has to be done. Otherwise that layer of seemingly nothing becomes a gray blanket covering everything. And where does it all come from? Apparently we humans are the cause of a lot of it. Perhaps if I absented myself from my own home, I wouldn't have to…

The Rescue that Almost Wasn't

Last April catastrophe struck a group of 33 miners in a remote part of Chile. Because of a previous engineering “short cut” in the copper mine where they labored a massive rock slide estimated at over 700,000 tons had potentially entombed them almost a half mile underground. Soon the whole world was tuned into their plight. What…
