A True Champion
I just love it when the Lord Jesus does something through one of His kids that is totally unexpected. He loves to surprise people! When that happens even those who don’t understand what’s truly going on are affected. My wife and I recently witnessed one of these moments on TV of all places.
We were watching a popular cooking show on which four…Continue

Triumph and Trials
Today is my birthday. Most years, birthday’s come and go with a bit of celebration, and then on with life. However, there are some that have caused me to pause and reflect. This is one of those years. Officially entering the “Medicare” generation in light of the current government healthcare juggernaut has definitely had a part in this pause. But I am happy to say, God and His faithfulness have had center stage.
So, why the title, “Triumph and Trials”? Those…Continue

This is part two in my series on favor. In part one I spoke of the reality that favor is not something just for the few. We live in God’s favor because we live now in Him. Favor is part of the atmosphere of the Kingdom of God. Just as God’s Presence is always with us, so too is favor.
However, like any treasure, favor may not be lying right on the surface of our circumstance. Sometimes we need to dig, to…Continue

Summer on the Park Bench with Father
Hello Fellow Mountain Taker,
It’s been a long time since you’ve heard from me. The last “E-ncouragement” I sent is dated June 3rd! Perhaps you thought I took the summer off, or was done corresponding like this. Neither is true. This has been a very full, intense, and pivotal time for me. The main reason I haven’t written is because the Lord did not give me…Continue

A Cruse of Oil
I just had an experience with Jesus that I think you will find both humorous and encouraging.
I love discovering new ways Jesus desires to share His Life wiht us. From time to time I have “experimented” with the practical aspects of the Presence Powered Life. I have asked Jesus to paint through me and have actually felt my hand being guided at times by His. One time I was confronted with a carpentry…Continue

Two buzz words Mountain Takers face and have to wrestle with a lot. If you’re in business, what’s the core competency of your firm? If you’re a professional of any stripe you are constantly being measured by what other’s perceive is your core competency. What do you do better than those around you? Is your voice stronger, your dance step more elegant, can you out-perform the other players on your team? Wherever you are,…Continue

The Counterintuitive Kingdom
Human reason is a wonderful gift and a useful tool for many things. It is a God – given faculty that helps us to understand and navigate the world around us. We use it every day. Many a mystery has been solved through good old fashioned intuitive thinking and common sense. However, there is one realm where human reasoning will not suffice. That is the Spiritual realm, namely the Kingdom of God. Spiritual…Continue

The Honor of Kings
“It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory (honor) of kings is to search out a matter.”
Some of God’s mysteries will only be revealed in Heaven. But He has many for us to uncover here and now. He delights in our desire to search out things and will patiently lead us in our pursuit of answers. Sometimes these searches are to unlock spiritual mysteries and sometimes they are…Continue

In the last month I have spoken to three different groups, a church, university students and a business management team, and each time the Lord has focused on this theme. “How can I have results that last and make a difference in my world?” It all comes down to two words, roots, and fruit.
Picture a fruit tree. A fruit tree has three main parts, roots, trunk, and fruit. All of these parts are essential and…Continue

Empty Cross, Empty Grave! Now What?
In just three days the Lord Jesus Christ did three things that only He could do.
He Paid the Price
Taking the full brunt of the punishment that we deserved, He became sin, the thing He and His Father hated. And because of it He literally experienced His Father’s rejection as He hung on the cross. Jesus’ sacrifice was total and complete.

A New Look at a Classic
Psalm 23 is one of the best known poetic works in the world; comforting words read daily at hospital bedsides and cemetery gravesides. Even people who are not particularly spiritual seek the solace and security these six verses offer. Recently I was reading them again and came to see them in a brand new way. A way filled with power for every Mountain Taker.
David’s words evoke a peaceful pastoral setting of sheep grazing in sunshine filled…Continue

Ever had the experience of reading along on a page and all of a sudden the text seems to jump out at you? Somehow it speaks to right where you are. It can be a bit overwhelming. At those times you have an “Ah Ha” moment. “There’s the answer to my question!” or, “Why didn’t I see this before?” It can happen in any setting professional or personal. For me it’s most arresting when I’m reading my Bible.
Recently I found…Continue

Three “S’s” of the Kingdom
Saved, Set Apart, Sent
Every follower of Jesus has heard these three and their underlying truths expressed many times. Usually the emphasis is on the first and third, so we won’t dwell on them. Today I want to look at the often overlooked or under comprehended number two – “Set apart”
What does it meant to be “Set apart”? It’s often seen as the link between “Saved” and…Continue

It Really Happens!
“The Light shines in the darkness, the darkness does not overcome it…” [John 1:5] The effect can be quite dramatic. My wife and I experienced that in an encounter the other night.
First, some background. We live in a residential community in which all the home owners are members of the home owners association, which is overseen by a management company and a board of directors elected from the residents.…Continue

While in prayer one morning last week for God’s ambassadors on the 7 Mountains of Culture, I found myself looking up at a huge mountain. What I saw was a beautiful, dark, winter night scene. The sky was black with few stars; the mountain covered with snow. As I gazed at the mountain I began to notice movement. Skiers were making graceful arcs on the sides of the slope. It was an image right out of a Winter Olympics telecast.…Continue

ROI Kingdom Style
Have you ever pondered this verse?
”Cast your bread upon the waters, for you will find it after many days.” Ecclesiastes 11:1
Commentators I have studied are, like with many issues of Biblical translation, uncertain of an exact meaning for the original Hebrew. This is not surprising because many ancient words do have a breadth of meanings. In this case the idea of “casting your bread on the waters” is…Continue

Scaling new Heights in 2013
New Year’s Day is now history and a new season has begun. Every season calls for fresh vision. What has gotten me to where I am now will not take me to the new heights the Lord has for me to scale and conquer in the year ahead.
Wisdom born of past experience has taught me that before venturing onward and upward to review my current status to evaluate the challenges ahead that might slow down or stop…Continue

The Gift of Life
It has often been said that you don’t really appreciate what you have until you lose it, or it’s been taken from you. As one who was closer to the ultimate of that experience than I realized I have come to have a new appreciation for that truth.
I have titled this installment “The Gift of Life”, because I have a tremendous sense of gratitude to the Lord for His gift of life and what He has just done for me. I…Continue

The Still small Voice
One day as you are going about your normal routine a name, a face, of someone you have not had any contact with in a long time comes briefly to mind. You think nothing of it, but within 24 hours you receive a phone call, email from this very person or encounter them unexpectedly.
As you are driving home from work a picture of a milk carton appears in your mind. Though you’ve had no communication with your…Continue

A Journey or a Destination
About a week ago, in the wee hours of the morning, I found myself awake and wrestling with a statement somebody made to me that day that if our plans don’t work out as we thought they would it can only mean that we missed God or did something wrong. I know that is not all there is. There can be many factors far beyond our control that can influence outcomes. But we still feel compelled to assign “blame”,…Continue
